ALS is the most common motor neuron disease among adults. This disorder causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells that control muscle movements, and weakens muscles until they are paralyzed. ALS mostly appears without family history of the condition. Another Nervous System issue is a stroke. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. It is the fourth leading cause of death and leading cause of disability in the U.S.. Symptoms of a stroke include sudden paralysis of leg, arm, or one side of the face, hard time speaking or understanding speech, vision problems, and loss of coordination. Multiple Sclerosis or MS is also a disorder of the nervous system. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. It is caused by damaging or destroying the myelin sheath and causing lesions/ scars to nerve fibers. Symptoms of MS depend on which nerve fibers are damaged. Epilepsy is another disorder of the nervous system. Epilepsy causes recurrent seizures, and can have many possible causes. Some of the causes of epilepsy include imbalance of neurotransmitters, or abnormal nerve connections that form after an injury such as head trauma, or stoke.
